Success Stories
Amana Boerdery in Levubu near Louis Trichardt in the Northern Transvaal farms with avocados, guavas and macadamias. In 2005 they developed a new farm where 18ha of guavas were planted under drip irrigation. They make use of pulse irrigation and fertigation. Amana farms says they initially struggled with fertiliser application and fertiliser pumps that just did not seem to last but in March 2007 they decided to try the ITC Multifertic pumps supplied by Agriplas.
According to Lizelle Schoerie of Amana Farms the ITC Multifertic pumps resolved all their problems. They found the pumps to be very accurate and gave no problems. Maintenance on the system is low and the pumps have only been serviced once since 2007. Lizelle says they have used these pumps together with the Gulf 600 computer and have found that each irrigation block can be more accurately fertigated and this increased their efficiency while lowering costs.
